Columnar jointing is a phenomenon that occurs when magma cools and solidifies slowly, resulting in rocks that crack in a regular, polygonal columnar pattern due to the uniform contraction of the magma.
Well, that's the theory, but I think there are quite a limited number of places where you can see such massive and magnificent columnar jointing right before your eyes. (Nihedon @ KesaranPasaran Lab)
