yTown & Gourmetz@ Seikan Tunnel Memorial Museum (Aomori pref.)
The Seikan Tunnel, connecting Aomori and Hokkaido, is 53.85 km long, making it the world's longest transport tunnel.
The tunnel's concept was announced in 1923, construction began in 1961, and after numerous difficulties, the pilot tunnel, featured in the film "The Strait," was finally completed in 1983. Finally, in 1987, 26 years after construction began, the tunnel was completed!
The opening of the Hokkaido Shinkansen in 2016 is still fresh in our memories.
The aforementioned film "Kaikyo" (The Strait) stars Ken Takakura, Sayuri Yoshinaga, Tomokazu Miura, and Hisaya Morishige. It depicts the story of how the Seikan Tunnel was constructed, starting with the events leading up to its completion. Despite numerous casualties due to large-scale flooding accidents, the film portrays the dramatic achievement of the "pilot tunnel" (a tunnel dug before the main tunnel for trains, etc.) ? it's an absolutely superb film.
Watching this movie will undoubtedly increase your appreciation for the Seikan Tunnel by 300%! @(Nihedon @ KesaranPasaran Lab)
